A guide to ideas for engagement photos in Northeastern Pennsylvania

You’re engaged! The adventure begins! Getting your engagement photos is usually one of the first things on the agenda as far as wedding planning, which of course can be over whelming in itself. The engagement session is all about having fun, connection, and basically setting aside some time to go on a unique photo date with your fiance. Engagement sessions are my absolute FAVORITE kinds of sessions. There are so many awesome ideas out there, and ways to celebrate your love that is uniquely you. Too often I see my clients stressing over their session, the weather, the outfits. My advice is to let yourself be YOU, allow the day to become everything it is meant to. If it rains, we will figure it out! If you broke out from stress, or don’t feel confident, don’t get yourself bummed out. There are so many options, so many solutions to every issue that can arise. Here are some of my absolute favorite spots and ideas for your engagement photos in beautiful Northeast Pennsylvania.

Things to keep in mind;

Locations + Time of year - With our changing seasons its always good to be thoughtful of how a space looks during certain seasons!

What you’re wearing and how that will blend in with your locations (Color theory is key!) We can chat more about how your outfits can really compliment the colors of a location during the planning process.

LIGHT! You can’t really get those dreamy golden photos unless we shoot at the right time of day (sunrise, or sunset).

woodsy

Keep in mind, there are lots of beautiful wooded areas in our little corner of NEPA, but knowing the right spots is important for great light and backdrops

prairie vibes

This is quickly becoming my new favorite summer spot! No hiking - lots of beautiful light, open fields, tall grass + water. Located in Sweet Valley, PA.

pocono’s

You really cant go wrong with open skies, mountains and greenery. This spot does have a waterfall down the road that is really really accessible (pictured in the waterfall section). Also has some cool long roads, rocks, woods, water and streams.

mountain hikes & vistas

This is new location and I can’t wait to go back and explore it more. It’s a short trail through the woods, with some little steams, a big open mountain top with lots of greenery and gorgeous light along with some cute little prairie areas with tall grass. It’s located just outside of Scranton, in Jessup PA.

urban

Hit the town, run around and play in the cute streets of Wilkes-Barre, Scranton or any of the beautiful little towns in our area. I typically suggest doing the city if your session is during that time of year after the holidays and into early spring. You’ll avoid getting all the dead foliage as your background and instead of a cool urban scape as the backdrop of your hang! Tip: Use all the cool doorways, little alleys, and cute little nooks of the city for some cool, unique pictures! Check out this urban engagement session in downtown Scranton here!

waterfalls

If you’re down for a little hiking and adventure, heads up to Ricketts Glen, Buttermilk, Bushkill or any of the hundreds of waterfalls we have in the NEPA Area. You can get some really beautiful photos at the waterfall, and even a few cute ones on the hike to and from the falls. Tips: Wear the right shoes for the hike, don’t go during peak times. Ricketts Glen is really gorgeous but keep in mind (especially during the summer ), hiking to the big waterfall takes time, and some experience navigating. I usually recommend to plan for a few hours, bring a change of clothes if its hot (you will sweat!) and of course a change of shoes if you’re thinking of glamming it up.

the weeping willow

Hit the park! Probably another one of my favorites on a summer afternoon. Simple, cute, and fun. What is more romantic than a stroll in the park? We have so many cute parks in the area, take advantage of that and go hang out, have a pic-nic! I have a few spots that I absolutely LOVE to shoot at because of how beautiful the light is, and I just love the fact that its right here in Wilkes-Barre. Tips: Bring some music and have a dance party, oh and if you’re going in the summer bring some bug spray! Bugs love busy parks!
